CHAPTER 115
CHAPTER 115
We crashed on the ground, yes; we! The blinding light had faded, or my eyes had grown used to it. That is when I saw it was not a flashing light, no strange creature, it was a human.
However, I didn't have enough time to see who it was. My back crashed on the green grass; nothing was soft about that collision, and before I could even catch my breath my saving angel of light swished away. Leaving me alone, baffled, scared, and disorientated.
"Drifta! What is your problem?"
I knew my anger was misplaced, that everything just boiled up right now, but now it was all directed at Drifta. My wolf, the creature that was supposed to be my other half, the missing part of my soul and all that. Despite all this, she couldn't even help!
"You don't even try!"
I shouted to nobody because I found myself at least a couple of kilometers away from the burning chaos down in the village. I couldn't see Amon, and my heart threatened to hammer through my chest as I scanned the ground loudly cussing up Drifta, letting all my frustration out on her. I didn't feel bad about it, because she didn't even care to answer me. Only stirred a little in my mind, scoffed, and paced around like she was the stressed one!
"Eir!! Eir, come!"
I recognized the light female voice shouting from the top of her lungs, I knew I knew that voice, but I didn't place it before I finally saw her running towards me from the side. Her eyes were wide with fear, her once so perfect hair disheveled, her clothes dirty and dried up blood caked down one of her long perfect model legs; Lydia.
"Fuck off Lydia!"
I shouted at her without looking in her direction, struggling to get to my feet. Every muscle in my body felt stiff and sore, every movement sent lightning bolts of pain through me, and I scoffed and huffed like an old man getting up from the coach when he didn't want to at all. I felt old, really old. My knees trembled, one even wobbled almost giving in, and that strange sensation that it would slip out and break my knee, and foot right of crossed my mind several times, but it never happened. It only continued to shift, moving when it was not supposed to and causing me to struggle with my balance as I tried to shake it off like it was a muscle that had fallen asleep after sitting in a weird position for too long. Limping, and dragging my stiff limps after me I was determined to go back down there. To find Amon, make a nice and warm winter jacket of that white wolf and find my dad.
That thought made me stop and look at Lydia.
She kept running towards me and even had the audacity to grab me around the shoulders and try to hold me up and walk in the other direction. Back to the forest.
"What the hell! Where is Dad? Huh? Isn't this what you wanted? "
I almost spat in her face while harshly shaking and swatting her off me. I rolled my eyes when she had the nerve to look both surprised and hurt. But like the skilled actress she was, she shook it off and a split second later it was gone,
"What are you doing? Come! We need to go! There is a safe house by the mountain!"
She shouted, while looking everywhere else than on me and tried yet again to grab me, holding me up to support me holding me up. Irritated, I pushed her away, glaring so hard at her I hoped it would make her catch on fire. But for some reason, she didn't even take this direct hint to let me be alone and kept grabbing me and holding me up, like she was the nice one trying to help me, and the thought alone made me feel, sick.
"Stop! There is nobody here, stop the fucking acting! Leave me alone and find that mountain on your own! Where the hell did you leave my father?"
"I didn't leave him! He is fighting to keep our home safe! Stop being such a spoiled brat, and come! We need to get out of here, now!"
"I don't have to do anything! I'm going back there, and I am going to find Amon. To help Dad! You tuck your tail between your feet! This is your doing; deal with it and accept the consequences of your actions!"
"Don't be stupid, girl! Come! The men and warriors can handle this; we need to go to the safe house with the other women and children!"
"You don't deserve to be with them! What will they say when they all learn all this is because of you and your family?"
"Oh, come on! I know we started on the wrong foot, but this is not the time for this nonsense! And why the hell would you blame all this on me? Are you really that petty?"
I scoffed and brushed away her hand again as she reached out to lead me with her up the hill to the mountain, almost causing me to fall over. She grabbed me and prevented me from falling, and now she was harshly dragging me after her. I hated to admit it, but right now, I had a hard time standing, let alone walking, without her support, so I knew there was no use in me rolling back down to help. I would be a liability to them all; again, I cussed out Drifta in my mind. I was muttering, irritated, while staggering after Lydia, who desperately tried to force me to run faster.
"Calm down! I can't go faster! Why rush anyway? It's not like anyone will hurt you!"
"For goddess's sake, drop the attitude! You don't like me, that is fine! I know I'm partly to blame here, But that doesn't mean we both have to die! Grith your teeth and hurry up. Shut up and focus on breathing instead!"
It bothered me that she sounded as angry and hurt as I felt towards her; in my opinion, she had no reason to! But I also understood we would not agree, no matter what any of us said, and right now, I needed her to move forward. So, both shut up from there and directed all our energy on moving forward. Stumbling and shaking, I hated my body right now. Despite Lydia supporting me, it was hard and painful. My body didn't listen to me at all and continued to make me feel weak and without control.
The sound of screams, howls and growls filled the horizon behind us, and we both just stared forward. Blocking out each other, what was happening behind us. I didn't understand Lydia, not at all. She knew this would happen, planned this with her brothers, and even tried giving me away to them, pretending I had accepted that solution. However, I had to give her some credit; her acting was point-on, and it was almost like she really was scared and stressed. Her eyes were wide, her hair ruffled, and small red dots spread on her face and neck. She breathed rapidly and heavily while continuing to look back and forth, forward and backward, like she expected someone to jump out from nowhere at any moment.
The air vibrated around us, both filled with anxiety and adrenaline. A raging heartbeat, throbbing pulse, and heavy breathing were the only things living between us as we rushed up the steep grass hill as fast as possible. After what felt like an eternity, the foot of the mountain was finally within reach, and a rush of relief washed over me as I breathed out. But the relief was tainted by my consciousness; I hated not knowing how Amon was doing. I hated that I couldn't help him, even if I wanted to. He had done so much for me, even came back to save me, and I can't even do this for him. I can't even ensure he is fine or find him in the chaos.
While I felt we could finally breathe out now that the goal was within reach, Lydia still seemed to be on edge. Dragging and pushing for me to keep the speed up and follow her, and I finally had enough of this stupidity,
"Stop! I appreciate your help, but I will be fine on my own here! "
"What is wrong with you? Do you want to die or what? Come, we are almost there, and I owe it to you Father. I promised to find you and make sure you were okay. So please, stop fighting me like a stubborn toddler!"
Drifta had not healed me, but my muscles slowly softened, and I could now stand alone. I had to force her hand off me, one finger at a time while hissing at her to give this up.
"Thank you! What else do you want me to say?"
There was nothing nice about my fake thank you, we both knew it, but to be frank, I didn't have the energy left to even pretend. I knew she helped me, but I could not let the thought go that she had ulterior motives and that she knew all of this would happen from the beginning. She invited her brothers, she brought them here and I don't believe for a second, she didn't know of their plans! I pushed her harder than I thought, and she staggered back with a shocked expression.
"Fine, fuck this! I did my best, but I can't force you!"
She shouted, turned around, and started running for the mountain right ahead of us.
"By the way, you should drop the bracelet and collar!"
She shouted over her shoulder before she screamed. A white force rushed straight at her and knocked her to the ground. I gaped in shock and staggered backward, and my eyes grew wide when I saw the massive white wolf snarling over her body. A low whimper muffled by the thick grass, but she didn't move an inch. Slowly stripes of blood colored her back. And I screamed as loud as I could in horror and shock when the massive beast leaned down and bit her. Shook her hard and tossed her to the side, before looking at me.
